Affiliate programs for personal trainers: recommend the right tool

Updated 2026

The most useful affiliate recommendation starts with a client problem you would address anyway. It could be missing training equipment, difficulty recording workouts, or phone distractions that make sessions take too long. Commission is a reason to formalize that recommendation.

First separate two audiences: clients buying help with their training, and other trainers buying tools for their businesses.

Client offers versus professional offers

Buyer Product category Examples to investigate Main suitability question
Training client Logging and workout apps Hevy, Gravitus, WorkoutGen Does it support the plan and suit the client's ability?
Distracted iPhone gym user Focus app Workout Lock Is distracting phone use actually extending sessions?
Home-training client Equipment Titan, Rogue Is the purchase necessary, available locally, and within budget?
Client asking about nutrition products Relevant nutrition products Myprotein US Is the recommendation appropriate and within your scope?
Trainer or coach Coaching-business software Trainerize, FitBudd Does the buyer operate a coaching business?
Prospective fitness professional Education Verify relevant certification-provider partnerships Does the qualification meet local needs?

Business software is a poor recommendation for consumers who only want help with their own training, even when the commission recurs. A certification partnership needs independent checking. A course listed in an affiliate roundup is not automatically recognized where your audience works.

Protect the coaching relationship

Say why the tool helps, disclose your financial connection, and make clear whether buying it is optional. US FTC guidance covers material brand relationships. It is written for the United States, and other local rules can also apply.[4] A client should not have to buy every recommended accessory to receive the coaching already paid for.

Keep recommendations within your competence and the client's needs. Nutrition products need particularly careful treatment: avoid diagnosis, promises of treatment, or unsupported health claims. A commission does not make a product appropriate.

If you already charge for a coaching package, explain which software access is included and which purchases are separate. Confusing the two creates a poor client experience and can undermine trust.

Use the client's current tools when they are adequate. Switching apps can impose setup effort, duplicate subscriptions, and a learning curve. The expected benefit should justify that friction.

A practical recommendation workflow

  1. Identify the problem through your usual coaching conversation.
  2. Offer a useful behavior or equipment adjustment that does not depend on buying.
  3. Explain when the paid tool adds value and when it does not.
  4. Show the actual workflow and give the client's relevant options.
  5. Disclose commission before the purchase decision.
  6. Check whether the recommendation helped, rather than count only the sale.

For distracted clients, the behavior might be deciding which phone functions they need during training and avoiding unrelated apps. Workout Lock is an optional implementation tool for compatible iPhone users. It does not replace coaching or justify shortening programmed rest periods indiscriminately.

Are the earnings worth the work?

These figures are made up. Ten clients buy a product that earns €8 per eligible purchase. That creates €80 before your costs and taxes. If answering setup questions takes four hours, the return is €20 per support hour, before content or administration time. Compare that with the value of your coaching time.

A professional-software recommendation can have different economics, but only if your network contains qualified buyers. Recurring payments are affected by the earning period and customer retention. Projecting years of income from one new referral needs evidence you do not get from the percentage alone.

Workout Lock Partner Program

Workout Lock is an iOS app designed to help people finish workouts on time by blocking distracting apps during workouts. It may fit clients who keep their phone for music or logging but repeatedly get sidetracked. Community owners can read how to monetize a fitness community. Trainers without a site can read fitness affiliate marketing without a website.

Approved partners earn 50% of Workout Lock's net proceeds from the qualifying purchase, subject to terms. Net proceeds are what remains after Apple's commission, taxes withheld by Apple, and refunds or chargebacks. Commission applies to the first annual subscription bought through the Partner offer. Renewals do not earn commission. The customer enters the partner code in the app. The code is valid for 30 days, and a purchase in that window stays attributed. Payouts are monthly after a 30-day hold, with a €50 minimum. A trainer can explain the problem in educational content and demonstrate the tool. Earnings are not guaranteed.

FAQs

Can I earn without a large public following?

Potentially, through an eligible client or professional network. Program approval still matters. Provide accurate information about your clients, qualifications, and promotion channels where requested.

Should I recommend the highest-paying supplement?

No. Start with need, suitability, budget, and credible information. Choosing by commission can create a conflict with the advice your client is paying for.

Where should I put affiliate recommendations?

Use relevant onboarding resources, an optional tools guide, or a conversation about a specific problem. Follow the agreement and disclose the commercial relationship. Avoid adding unrelated sales pitches to every client message.
